Cotton's Corner was a popular gathering place for many
years. This site was operated as a soda fountain by 7 different owners
and
later used as restaurant by 5 different proprietors. Built in 1903 and
razed in 1985. Sandusky Hotel in Central City was erectedin 1878
by Capt William H. Sandusky. His daughter, Geneva, was reputed to be the
prettiest girl in Kentucky. As a joke, the dinner menu listed
over 75 different items - Roasts listed were - Buffalo, a la Robe Sauce
- Antelope, a la Caper Sauce -Gander, a la Goose Sauce - Elephant
a la Tusk Sauce - Chicken, Forty-Eight Years Old - Elk, a la Ham Sauce
- Seared Cow, a la Hoof Sauce -- Turkey, stuffed with Rubber Shoes, Goat,
stuffed with Cotton - Swan, stuffed with Red Flannel -- Soups -Mock Herring
- Sponge - Ox Ear - Cork - Walebone and
--4 kinds of Herring
The Gish Opera House opened circa 1903 in Central
City and was used for entertainment on the top floor and later, the site
of a
disastrous fire. Willie Reynolds built this house for his betrothed
but never married or lived in the new house.
